Obituary of Gilbert Vinden

GILBERT DICKSON VINDEN Passed into the presence of the Lord on August 24th, 2015 at the age of 87. Beloved husband of Margery for 58 years. Loved and respected father of Jonathan (Beverley), Christopher (Leslie) and Rachel (Stephen), grandfather of Alexander, Joanna, Luke (Emily), Victoria, Jacqueline and Nicholas. Beloved brother of Margaret Holder (Philip).Traveler, physician, farmer and father, he had a rich and interesting life. The son of missionaries to China, he spent most of his childhood separated from his parents in a school and then a Japanese internment camp. He studied medicine in London, England and then practiced in Ghana and Uganda for 10 years before settling in Canada. A rural general practitioner, he practiced in Cannington, Ontario for 40 years, retiring at the age of 80. Along the way he became a grandparent, a dairy farmer, coroner, sailor, innovative gardener, squash player and very amateur canoeist! He was inquisitive to the end, despite his health. The last few years have been a challenge faced with stoicism and grace. Now with Christ .... which is far better. Friends are invited to visit the family at Fair Havens Community Church, 2355 - 48 Highway, on Thursday, August 27 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral Service in Fair Havens Church on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Interment at Stone Church Cemetery.
