My sincere condolences on the passing of Irene. 'Mrs Holder' was my elementary school teacher for grades 4, 5 and 6. Although faded, I have many happy memories of those years thanks to Mrs Holders patience and good nature. She loved to spend the last half hour of the day reading to us from one of the Anne of Green Gables books...if we were well behaved that day. You can imaging that by grade 6 our band of mischievous pre-teen girls had figured out many ways of tricking the teacher so that incentive was necessary. Above all, Mrs. Holder had a great sense of humour and seemed to take everything in stride.
At one of our weddings we were outside chatting with her under an awning when my husband noticed the accumulation of water that had created a bulge overhead. Unable to resist, he pushed upward to empty the water before stopping to realize that someone might get wet! Unfortunately for Mrs Holder she received the full contents on her head, soaking her dress and all! We all shrieked in disbelief but Mrs. Holder was the first one to start laughing. Thank goodness she was such a good sport! (I still haven't forgiven my husband for that one!)
I hope you can take comfort in knowing that Irene had a positive impact on so many students throughout her career as a teacher and also as a friend.

When Ron and I moved to this area in 1972, Ralph and Irene were members of a group of friends and neighbours who welcomed us with open arms. They invited us to neighbourhood dances and made sure we felt comfortable in our new surroundings. We became part of their "crowd" of friends and acquaintances and we always looked forward to their huge barn parties and BBQs.
Over the years we were in awe as we watched Irene handle major issues in her life with incredible strength of character, patience and grace. She was an inspiration and we feel honoured to have known both her and Ralph. Our community will miss her dignity and style. Murray and Stan and family, we know you too have wonderful memories of fun parents and a courageous Mom.Remember the good times, as there were many!

Dear Murray and Stan, and family:
So very sorry for your loss. I know you will miss her in your lives. She and your Dad are now together and probably catching up or out dancing. I will always hold dear my memories of your Mother, her times as my house guest in Orillia when she was studying and especially flying over the farm when she was tanning in the back field. We had some good laughs. Take care and may you be blessed with strength, courage, hope and peace especially in the next days and months ahead.

My deepest sympathy for your loss.
I know its hard to say goodbye, but take comfort knowing that your mom is in a better place.
My thoughts drift back to summer days playing at the farm and camping out in the front yard only to be rescued when the thunder storms started.
Lots of skinned knees that were cleaned up and I'm sure your mom constantly worried every time the dune buggy went out.
Take care fella's

Dear Murray, Stan and Family,
So sorry to hear of the passing of your wonderful mom. As a student in her class during my grade 4,5,6 and 7 years at Thorah Central Public I came to know her and love her. She was an important part of my life even after school attending both showers and my wedding. As well she would send best wishes when my children were born and we would keep up to date through Christmas cards and visits. I can only hope that I have had a fraction of the impact on my students over the years that she had on me. God bless you all and may our beloved Irene rest in peace.
