On one of our camping holidays in St. John's - Jim was visiting at the same time. I woke up early one morning and the sun was shining so I opened the curtains and saw Jim's car parked in our lot. I asked Leo if he knew Jim's car was out there so Leo went out and checked and Jim was asleep in the back of his green station wagon. When Jim woke up we asked why he didn't wake us when he arrived as he was more than welcomed to sleep in the camper. He said it was late when he arrived and he was fine as he didn't mind sleeping in the car as it was a warm night. The next night we made Jim sleep in the camper. Well we all went to bed that night to get a good nights sleep when we were awakened with this "godawful noise" - "Jim's snoring". All night we tossed and turned - covered our heads with a pillow - until 6AM when we couldn't take it any longer. We got up and went quietly outside so we wouldn't wake Jim. It was a beautiful morning so we cooked breakfast and sat outside talking waiting for Jim to wake up. Jim finally woke up about 10AM and came outside the camper to have a smoke and his coffee. Leo or I didn't say a word but Jim sat down on the step and the first words that came out of him was "I DIDN'T SLEEP A WINK LAST NIGHT".

Jim was a favourite cousin growing up. He introduced a city boy from St John's to the things that you do on a farm in Torbay. I loved when we would go there evey week on Sunday.
He showed me how to cut & split wood, how to weed a garden, how to get water from the well, how to prong hay, how to ride a horse bareback, how to milk a cow by giving it a bucket of potato peels to get it to stand
still. And many other things. There was always something to do or some mischef to get into. When Jim was in high school at Gonzaga he came to the house every friday for dinner. Mom always had a cookeed meal & a baked dessert. I looked forward to every Friday.
Jim left Nfld in 1970 and moved to Toronto where he made a new life & spent the last 42 years. Unfortunately we lost touch over the years but did connect from time to time. I'm reget I did not get to see him when he came home in Aug. I have such fond memories of those youthful days
Jim was a wonderful good hearted gentleman who never did anybody any harm. .
To his daughters, grandchildren and brothers & sisters my sincere condolences on your loss.

We all were so sorry to hear about the loss of your father and want to express our deepest sympathies and send you lots of love to Ann, Cheryl, and Families. Jim was a wonderful brother and brother-in-law. He was a great friend. Leo and Jim had a special bond that even became stronger as they got older. They both had a lot of the same interests and enjoyed their many, many phone conversations. It was never strange for one or the other to make a phone call to each other that started with the sentence are you watching this channel on the TV. If they weren't watching it then the TV channel was changed and many times they talked on the phone all while they both watched the same show. If they needed to watch without talking you would hear the saying I'll call you back when the show is over and then they would talk it out. When the auto auction shows were on the calls were frequent as he would call to tell you to look for this car or that car as they were the next ones coming up. His love of old cars was evident and his knowledge was unlimited. He liked to share his enjoyment of this activity with you. We always enjoyed his visits as he seemed to feel at home the moment he arrived and was able to find things to do to entertain himself. He would come home and tell us what was going on in the town as he could strike up a conversation with whomever he met. We will miss Jim dearly, he will never be forgotten. We will always remember his smile and his laugh.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Cheryl and Ann and their families, and to all of Jimmy's brothers and sisters. Jimmy was a dear friend and cousin, and such a large part of my fondest childhood memories. So glad he had the opportunity to go home to Nfld. this summer because it always meant so much to him. He was a quiet, soft-spoken, mild-manner person and was a favourite of everyone in the family. I'll miss his phone calls, especially at Christmas and my birthday, reminising about old times. He's gone too soon, but will always be loved and never forgotten.

Heaven has gained another angel. Jim was a wonderful cousin and life long friend. We grew up together and our families spent a lot of time together when we were young. I was so glad to spend time with Jim when he was in Newfoundland this summer and he enjoyed the jiggs dinner that I cooked for him. He had a heart of gold and was loved by everyone. He will be sadly missed. I will treasure the memories and pictures that I have of him. I give my heartfelt condolences to his daughters, brothers, sisters and their families.
