Tom was a very influential man in my life. A longtime neighbour and a man I considered a friend. Every time I'd pass him by he'd wave, give a hearty "hello, James!" with a big grin and have a good chat. In my younger days I was friends with his daughter and received many rides to school, which were appreciated in the colder months. He was very involved in the community from firefighting to minor hockey when my brother and his son played. I will miss Tom, and my prayers go to the family. Cannington lost a great man, heaven gained an angel. with Christ's love J Fretz

Had just happened to attend the same Mass one bright beautiful Easter Sunday morning up at St. Joe's in Beaverton... I was attending on my own as husband Bob was home sick and Lois was working... So I sat with Tom, son Ben with Kelly, and their children, MacKenzie and Thomas. Tom was holding Thomas when it came to the part of the Mass where the altar boys rang the Eucharist bells... Little Thomas turned his Papa's face toward him and started calling out, "Fire Papa!" "Fire Papa!"
Well, we all had to control our own laughing over little Thomas wondering why his firefighter Papa wasn't running out the door to a fire! He certainly gave the rows in front of us and behind us a good chuckle!
We'll miss you terribly Tom... Rest in peace dear friend...

To Lois and the O'Grady Family. On behalf of my family please accept my heartfelt sympathies, I got to know Tom while working with the Firefighters Association, Tom was so humble with his approach,to become a member of the executive but his hard work and enthusiasm soon become contagious to all the executive. He will be missed by us all and his memory will NEVER be forgotten, Like the award given to him at convention... Tom's legacy will live on forever! John Scheeringa- First Vice President FFAO

Dear Lois and family and the O''Grady family: Although, we didn't know Joe personally, he is first cousin of my first cousin Gerry Lacombe of Killaloe. From all I have heard from his sister-in-law- Jim's wife Rosemarie, he was a fine fellow, and much loved by Jim. "Of all the commentaries on the Scriptures," wrote John Donne, "good examples are the best". He was of all accounts, a good example of a good son, a good brother, a good husband, father, and a fine grampa to his grandchildren, the most important of all. May he be that bright star that you see on a moonlight night, watching down over all, from Gods place on high. R.I.P. Tommy

Dear Lois & O'Grady family; On behalf of the Fire Fighters' Association of Ontario please accept our most heart felt condolences. My fire service relationship with Tom was not long, but during this time, respect and appreciation for his dedication, commitment and ability was almost immediate. We had great expectations for Captain O'Grady and can honestly say that your loss is shared by the 19000 volunteer firefighters in Ontario. Tom's council and frendship will be missed. Sincerely, Carl

Lois, Ben Derek and Crystal, our deepest sympathies upon learning of Toms death. We cannot begin to imagine how you are feeling right now. Tom was a great friend to Ed and how he enjoyed their travelling time back and forth to GM. His support when Ed was ill and his friendship meant so much to us both. I know everyone says it but if there is anything we can do for any of you please don't hesitate to ask. At the very least he must have been very happy and excited getting ready for the hunt. He will be missed by many. Of that there is no doubt. Our hearts and prayers are with you all as you go through this horrible time in your life. R.I.P. Tom.

I will always remember Tommy for his good nature and great sense of humor. He was truly a joy to know and I feel fortunate to have had him for a brother. Tommy was a great brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who will always hold a special place in my heart and the hearts of his other brothers and sisters. Lois, Ben, Kelly, Derrick, Kristen and Crystal, be good, kind and supportive of each other during this difficult time. Cherish the time you have together and love each other with the same love that Tommy had for all of you. Love and care for his grandchildren. He'd want that! And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched. . .for nothing loved is ever lost-and he was loved so much. “I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love. “ I know that we miss him, but he will always be in our hearts!!!!

I was very saddened to hear the news that Tom had passed away. I remember being a kid walking to school in the bitter cold and either he or his wife would offer us a ride. Being a neighbour of Toms for my whole childhood and adolscent years and my dad being his neighbour for over 30 years brings us much saddness to see that a great man, firefighter, father and husband is now up above watching over his loved ones. My condoolences go out to his wonderful family.

What a shock here to learn of Tom's untimely passing. My sympathies are with the family & close friends that he's left behind... I worked with Tom in the latter years of my career with GM, and always found him to be a positive, upbeat individual who never disappointed me whenever I went to him for assistance & advice on build problems that had me scratching my head. I'm sure that his bright outlook on things was not limited to the workplace, and for that reason alone his presence and infectious smile will surely be missed just that much more by those whose lives Tom had touched...

I am very saddened to hear of Tom's passing. I unfortunately didn't know him. However, I have heard many great things about him. I have known his daughter Crystal for quite some time. I remember this one time we had a conversation and Crystal was talking about her Dad. Through our many conversations, It was obvious how much Tom was loved by his family and how much he loved others. I can only imagine what the family must be going through right now. You all will be in my prayers. Heaven has gained a new angel. Even though God has called him to bigger and better things, He will always be with you in the memories you share, the moments of laughter, and the tears you cry. He will always be watching over you.

TO THOSE I LOVE AND THOSE WHO LOVE ME WHEN I AM GONE, RELEASE ME, LET ME GO, I HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO SEE AND DO, YOU MUSTN’T TIE YOURSELF TO ME WITH TEARS, BE HAPPY THAT WE HAD SO MANY YEARS. I GAVE YOU MY LOVE, YOU CAN ONLY GUESS, HOW MUCH YOU GAVE TO ME IN HAPPINESS, I THANK YOU THE LOVE YOU EACH HAVE SHOWN, BUY NOW IT IS TIME I TRAVEL ALONE. SO GRIEVE A WHILE FOR IF GRIEVE YOU MUST, THEN LET BE YOUR GRIEF BE, COMFORT BY Trust It's ONLY FOR AWHILE WE MUST PART, SO BLESS THE MEMORIES WITHIN YOUR HEART. I WON’T BE FAR AWAY, FOR LIFE GOES ON, SO IF YOU NEED ME, CALL AND I WILL COME. THOUGHT YOU CAN’T SEE OR TOUCH ME, I’LL BE NEAR, AND IF YOU LISTEN WITH YOUR HEART, YOU’LL HEAR, ALL OF MY LOVE AROUND YOU, SOFT AND CLEAR. AND THEN, WHEN YOU MUST COME THIS WAY ALONE, I’LL GREET YOU WITH A SMILE AND SAY.... “WELCOME HOME.” My thoughts are with the family. It was an honour knowing you brother Tom RIP.

Don't grieve for me,for now I'm free I'm following the path God has laid you see.I took his hand when I heard him call. I turned my back and left it all.I could not stay another day, to laugh,to love to work to play.Tasks left undone must stay that way.I found the pease at the close of the day.If my parting has left a void. Then fill it with remembered joy,a friendship shared,a laugh,a kiss.Oh yes these things I will miss.Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full I savored much. Good friends, good times,a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.Left up your hearts and pease to thee, God wanted me now. He set me free.I will miss you my friend Linda Carruthers FFAO
