Passed away peacefully, at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Tuesday,June 2, 2020 at the age of 90. Predeceased by her husband Pierre (d. 2012) and her brother Roy (d. 1991). Will be greatly missed by her children Rich Corbin (Lyn), Barbara Corbin and Wendy Reid (Darryl). Dear grandmother of Elena, Glen, Jemma, Joey and Marcus and step grandmother to Julie and Laura (Jon) and great grandmother of Prior and Finley and step great grandmother to Stella. Fondly remembered by her former son-in-law Collin.
Audrey was born in Toronto on February 24, 1930 and was a proud graduate of Central Tech. She married Pierre in August 1951 and they purchased a new house in Scarborough in 1954 to raise a family. She was a talented seamstress, spending much of her time making everything from wedding dresses, suit coats, sweaters and other clothes for her children and grandchildren to knitting mittens and afghans for charities. Audrey was also a dedicated long-time employee of The Bay in Eglinton Square until she and Pierre retired in 1990 and moved to Keene. When not at work, she was an avid canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. After the passing of the love of her life in May 2012 and unable to live on her own, she moved to the Maple Glen Apartments in Sunderland and began a whole new life with a group of fabulous friends, playing euchre, attending church and participating in various seniors’ functions around town.
In light of the current situation, a small family service will be held at the Sunderland Cemetery. Charitable donations are encouraged to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. Memories, photos and condolences may be shared at www.thornefuneralhome.ca
