PAPA
I remember a time; when you had an idea ( maybe not the best of ideas ) but an idea nonetheless. You decided you would take Kyle and myself Ice fishing by yourself. So out we went. We chiseled two holes further down and then two more closer to PAPA. After about 5 minutes we decided it was time to lay down. Until we heard a voice yell “ you guys are never going to catch anything laying down like that. We lifted our heads and turned to PAPA trash talking to us, fishing two holes shaking his head. We laughed and put our heads down on the ice. Then the first hit came and then another and another as we lay there. After each fish we looked over laughing and smiling joking around as PAPA looked almost in disbelief standing next to his fish. Then Karma hit us. We get a big tug and up we bring this pretty nice trout, the biggest one we have ever caught, smiling and looking at PAPA holding this Fish not by the body or anything but by the end of the fishing line. Laughing away standing above the hole. Sure enough the hook gave way and just as fast as we brought the fish out of the hole he went back in the hole. Shoving our hand in the hole like there was a chance we could have caught him bare handed. Then the head turn of shame came. We looked over to PAPA and not one word but the biggest grin on his face. Not sure if he was smiling and laughing inside because it was us and nothing surprised him or if he was smiling because it ended our showboating.
As the morning ended PAPA packed up his fish and equipment and headed our way telling us it was time to go. Well sure enough we would give PAPA one last hassing before we called it a day. As Papa passed we told him we would be right behind as we pretended to pack up our things and gather our fish. Papa got about 50 yards away and looked back and sure enough there was us still fishing. A bit more stern he hells “let go” so we let him have this one and we packed up our bags and started to walk. That was until we reached our other holes. We then proceeded to scoop open the hole and pretend to put our lines back down. At this time Papa was almost around the point and we saw him shake his head, throw up his hand and bring it down like forget to guys. So off he went carrying his bucket of fish and around the bend he went to the marina. Once out of sight we picked up everything and went back to the Van where Alice was waiting. Sure enough PAPA is in the Van in the front seat straight faced. I believe he was trying to hide a smile. We got in the van laughing and off we went after a little talking about when PAPA says let go we should go.
I do not know if it was time that passed too quickly or PAPA never wanted to take us again. But this was the last ice Fishing i Had with you PAPA. Love you always and thank you Again for all the Memories i will carry for the rest of my life. You meant more to me then maybe you had known.
Lucas.
