Obituary of Robert Newell

Robert Baird Newell Formerly of scarborough, in his 88th year, died suddenly December 9th, 2011 with his devoted sister, Mary by his side. He has been united with the love of his life, Laurel Kay, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2008. Loving father of Paul and Lorraine Newell and Sharon and Leo Reinsoo. Cherished Poppa of Cara, Ryan, Kailan, Brennan, Darci, Reanne and Dillon and delighted great-grandfather of Lillian. Much loved big brother to Mary, Grace (2000), Margaret, Sally and Pat. Bert was predeceased by his parents Robert Sr. and Sarah Newell. He was born in Northern Ireland May 30, 1924 and immigrated to Toronto when he was two years old. He was a tremendous support to his parents and sisters during the meagre years of the depression in Scarborough. Bert was a loyal employee of Loblaws Company for 36 years. His many friends were a source of great joy in his life. The mere mention of a game of cards would bring a glint to his Irish eyes. He was a man of faith, a faith which sustained him in his final years. He will be dearly missed. Friends are invited to call at the Thorne Funeral Home, 109 Laidlaw St. S. in Cannington on Monday, December 12 from 7-9 pm and on Tuesday, December 1`3, 2011 from 12:30 until time of Funeral Service at 2:30 pm. Interment Cedar Vale Cemetery. As a remembrance, donations to the new Beacan Presbyterian Church or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
