Honest, Hardworking, Loyal, Compassionate, Loving and Dedicated
• I couldn’t just pick one. These all came to mind when doing this Eulogy for Dad, Grandpa, Bruce or Brucey …
He was born in 1938 in Stouffville, Ontario to Lorne and Lily Wagg but was a lifelong resident of the Village of Udora.
He has been married to Doneta Smith for 62 years…almost 63!
He has 3 daughters with 3 awesome fellas…
He has 5 grandchildren with three awesome wives.
He has 8 great grandchildren.
All very long successful relationships…
Dad, Grandpa, Bruce and Brucey with Doneta did something right!
Dad Always had the fastest car in town from a ‘57 Chevy, a Delta ‘88 to his 1976 GMC pick up which sported a big 454!
This was evident when he was pulled over one night. The policeman comes to the drivers door and asks Dad…Do you know how fast you were going?….Dad replies not sure maybe 90 clicks…policeman says 83 in a 60 but that’s the first time anyone’s ever guessed faster! Dad replies…with a small chuckle and says thanks for the warning! Puts it in drive and takes off. Im sure the policeman was trying to remember if he said warning or not as we drove out of sight.
Although, if you were lucky enough to follow him in the morning at exactly 80 km he would tell you there’s no need to hurry…I’m only going to work!
He started out his work at General Motors and over his many years he drove Dump Truck, ran a Backhoe and a Bulldozer for his oldest brother Lloyd and also was a long time Truck Driver for a feed company and through all of this was his fulltime job of Farming. He farmed pigs (so many pigs) cows (although i think we all thought Sweetheart was a bull especially Uncle Lloyds boys!) and his favourite — Standardbred Horses where he was a successful horse trainer winning the Presidents Award for his achievements. I think out of all his jobs his favourite was the snow blowing all over Udora he would do every time it snowed. Strange, I know but we thought he loved it by the huge smile he had when he returned but perhaps it was the wad of cash he enjoyed showing us upon his return.
Dad coached a little league baseball team for a few years and later He would spend monday nights roaring at the Lions Club in Udora being a founding member and many nights bartending at their functions.
He was a very cool Dad which i personally learned as i grew older. He was liked by everyone…no matter where or when or young or old.
He liked everyone. In my lifetime, I never heard him speak ill of anyone, no matter what the circumstance nor did I ever hear him complain right up to the end of this lengthy illness no matter how many appointments he had, or how many Dr visits he attended, or how much pain he was in, he was always ready to make the trips.
He Loved his family and always showed an interest in what everyone was doing from bee keeping to lacrosse playing and always took the time to listen and understand what all was involved. And was always happy to pass on what he learned to others.
I personally will miss the way he always knew what was going on almost everywhere. Whether it was this year’s price of wheat or who bought a new tractor. And if I had a question about anything there was no doubt in my mind—I knew who to ask.
He was a very proud man! And you all have yourselves to thank for that because right from your first steps to first girls’ hockey game. From your quail eggs to Saturday fishing catches, your awesome pizzas or honey or even your Snowshoe Series Final Win, you all made him that proud proud man!
I am honoured to call you Dad!
Honest, Hardworking, Loyal, Compassionate, Loving and Dedicated
Dad, Grandpa, Bruce, Brucey, We all have a piece of you that will live on in us forever. You have taught us each what type of person we strive to be. We will always be proud of you!
Your work here is finished. You did a tremendous job!
I hope the angels know what they have!
I guarantee Heaven is better since You have arrived!
I Love You,
Kristi

Dad
We were so sad to say goodbye. We know you are in a better place now but, it was still very hard the day we let you go.
Not a day goes by that I don’t think of You.
You were the greatest Dad! I try to think back to my earliest memories of life. I think the first memory that comes up is You and Mom bringing home our baby Kristi. Joanne was 4 and I was 3. We were so proud when we got to sit on the couch and hold that little bundle in our laps and have our picture taken. This was now our little family. I remember every year entering the bicycle decorating contest at the Udora Fair. I don’t know if we ever won but we always had a great time with all the neighborhood kids at all the different events. I remember Buffy! My Doberman puppy that You got me. I loved her so much. The other 2 girls were always at the barn with you and I was more of a “house” girl. That changed one day and then you became the best helper we ever had at the farm, first in Sandford then Port Perry and of course, in Oakwood. There wasn’t a job you couldn’t or wouldn’t do!
How could we have ever survived without you? We couldn’t have. I know everyone is missing you, and I mean everyone! What we all wouldn’t give to just have a little more time with you. Even one day. You are the first of us to make your final journey and get things arranged for us all to meet again some day. I wish I could’ve been there when the Angels met you. You have the most beautiful soul. I’m glad the nicknames you gave Jo and I didn’t stick. She was “chopper” and I was “scorchy”! I want you to know how much we all love you. It wasn’t something that we said very often but we all know you love us too. You did a fantastic job of being a Husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grampa and Great-Grampa. You have set the bar pretty high for the rest of the boys!
I really can’t say good-bye. I feel like you are still all around us. Please stay with us for a little longer. We miss you. We are keeping an eye on Mom for You. She misses you terribly but is keeping herself busy. You were the love of her life. I know Jo and Kris are trying to keep busy too but I know they have a special place in their hearts where you will live forever as do I. You are our Dad and nothing can change that! We are beautiful girls made by two beautiful parents. We will try to carry on your legacy. It’s a lot to live up to. We will try! I love you Dad. Love your 2nd daughter, Sondra Elaine Wagg

Dear Dad: I have so many happy memories of you from when I was a little girl to recent times. You are one of the kindest people that I know. You and Mom always made sure we had everything we wanted...from a pony, a horse, horse trailer to go to shows and the races. We always had a dog and cat around growing up. We had the best childhood and life.
I vividly remember the day the chickens attacked me in the barn-you were there to save me...my hero.
We were always involved in baseball and you and Mom were always in there to cheer us on.
I remember you cooking the meal that you learned at the Lektro Maid demonstration party for us...meatloaf, potatoes, lima beans and hard cooked eggs.
You were patient, hardworking and an honest person; this has taught me to be the same.
I miss you every day but I know it was time for you to go to heaven.
We are all going to be okay because you taught us how to care for one another.
I love you so much. Jo
