I want to send my deepest sympathies to the Cooper family...I only met John on two occasions....but he made a huge impression on me. The first time was the 25th anniversery of Moe and Bob, his much loved brother...and unfortunately the second time was at his loved brother's funeral. John, you are going to be in good company with your Bro in Heaven...and I'll look after Moe, best I can, till we all meet. And John, could you do me a favour...could you give my second best friend Bob a Hug from me...Love Syl

The Reilly/Taylor families extend our very sincere sympathy to John's immediate and extended family at this difficult time. We just spoke about John while my father was in hospital before Christmas. Our family and the Coopers were neighbours for many, many years, and we are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Our thoughts are with your family.

I was saddened by the fact that John was taken from both your family and our GO Transit family. John will be sorely missed by all that knew him, drivers, family members as well as the many passengers who he served faithfully with lots of happiness. John's passengers loved the way he talked with them and the joy that he broght to them. My condolences to all the family.

For quite a few years John was the driver on my GO Bus route in the mornings and that is how I became acquainted with him. It always seemed to me as though John greeted each passenger along the way with a little personal quip of his own - I would always jokingly look at my watch as he pulled up at my stop and would say as I got on "high time you showed up!" (he was never late) and he would always say after I'd gotten on "ya ready??" meaning that I should hold on as he'd have to turn a sharp corner as I was walking (stumbling, actually) toward my seat. That being said, I was shocked to hear the news of John's sudden passing and so would like to pass along my deepest sympathies to you as a family and may you be granted strength and courage to endure during this very difficult time. Sincerely Lynne Steenkamp Brooklin, ON

I just wanted to extend my deepest condolences to your family. I am so sad to hear of the news, I just found out today. I have been taking the GO Bus for over 3 years now, and John was by far the nicest, most down to earth person I've ever known. He always looked out for others, and went above and beyond what was expected. I am very sorry for your loss, and my thoughts and prayers are with your family. Eddy Williams

John and I attended Brock High School at the same time. Even though he was a couple of years older we spent a great deal of time together with a group of friends. We had some great times and John was always a very personable guy. I had seen him several times the last couple of years and he was still that friendly guy who liked to talk about the fun times from our teen years. I will always think of him with great fondness. My condolences to all his family.

To the family of George John Cooper: I am so terribly sorry to hear about the lost of your beloved John. John was my bus driver for many years: I rode the 7:30 a.m. Go Bus from just North of Brock & Taunton, to the Go train station. John was an amazing bus driver; extremely nice, patient and seemed to truly enjoy what he did. We were spoiled by him, as he would often make sure we were all on the bus before he pulled off. If someone was missing, he would make it a point to find out if they were away that day or just late – and if he should wait for them. I saw John for the last time on Tuesday December 29, 2009. We talked about life after retirement and his missed opportunity of driving a bus for the upcoming Winter Olympics in B.C. I cannot believe he is gone! I just wanted to take the time to let you know how special he was to me and how much I will miss him. My deepest deepest condolences go out to each and everyone of you. I will Pray that you find the strength to make it through what will undoubtedly be a very difficult time in your lives. May God Bless you all, Ms. Olu Muili

To the family of Our John (as we so fondly called him), I share in your grief at this sudden and tragic loss. John was the finest and best bus driver I had ever encountered on the TTC and on the GO. He was the best model of customer service. May God's peace rest with you all.

Dear Cooper family, I hardly know where to begin to express my profound sorrow and condolences. My fellow GO bus riders and I (Newmarket/Yorkdale) were devastated this morning when we heard the news. Much of the day was spent emailing each other and reflecting on our experiences with John. The number of condolences from riders on this memorial page is not surprising. John was not just liked, he was loved. The testimonies clearly recount John's caring nature and exemplary customer service. He was indisputably one of GO Transit's best drivers and from my perspective a model citizen of the world. Bus rides with John were a joy, not only because his first concern was always for the comfort and safety of his riders, but also because of his gregarious nature. A smile and happy salutation for all were a constant. John was always game to engage in lively debates and never hesitated to ask me if I wanted cheese to go with my whine. Under the `cone of silence` we were allowed to dress the bus with Maple Leaf insignia - when they were winning, and daily we would observe the weather cows in the field at Bathurst and Hwy 9 and present our findings. He played the road kill game with us (if it was there three days or longer we could name it). Rocky was the favourite followed by Puddy Splat. Go Transit has the ability to make or break your day and everyday John was the icing on the cake after a long day at work. In life, there are some people we meet through happenstance who ultimately enrich our lives and leave an indelible mark. For me and many others, John was one of those people. I regret that work commitments prevent me from coming to Cannington tomorrow to celebrate John's life and letting you know first-hand how much John meant to his riders. My deepest sympathies and love. Nancy
