Obituary of Ross Innes Cookman

Please share a memory of Ross to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In the early morning of January 20, 2017, at his West Shore Residence in Port Perry, Ross Innes Cookman departed this world. Mourning his passing are daughters Catherine, Susan Cameron (Rupert) and Deborah Ruis (Ed), son Christopher Cookman (Kim), grandchildren Jacob Cookman, Kimberley (Ruis) Schlitt (Bobby), Dan Ruis (Jodi) and great grandchildren Braiden and Tyler Schlitt. Ross was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie, who died on January 1, 2010. Ross was an only child, but during his well-lived 96 years, he enjoyed the companionship of many friends and relatives. He began his life on a farm near Pinedale with his father Reginald Cookman and his mother Elizabeth Innes. His interest in farming and agriculture never faded. After selling the dairy farm at Wick, he remained connected to farming by driving a milk transport for Greenbank Cartage. Nothing pleased him more than a drive down country roads surveying the cattle grazing in the pastures and crops growing in the fields. Upon retirement, Ross enjoyed working in his very large vegetable garden, curling, lawn bowling, travels with Marie and cheering on the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs. At this time, the Cookman family would like to thank the nursing staff and personal support workers at his West Shore Residence. Their kindness and support over the last four years is much appreciated. Please join the family in a celebration of Ross’s life at the Greenbank United Church (19991 Highway 12, Greenbank) on Friday, February 17th. The family of Ross Cookman will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m. followed by a service at 2 p.m. with light refreshments to follow. If desired memorial donations may be made by cheque through the Thorne Funeral Home (109 Laidlaw Street South, Box 236, Cannington) to the Women’s Resources of Kawartha Lakes (Lindsay) or the charity of your choice.
