Joan was born in Hamilton and spent her youth in Beeton before attending Banting Memorial High School in Alliston. Joan was active in baseball and cheerleading and worked on nearby tobacco fields and Bakers Fruit and Vegetable Market in Bradford before meeting Harold at a dance at the Black Horse Hall near Tottenham. They married October 17, 1953 and lived on a farm west of Sunderland to raise their family.
Joan & Harold moved to Sunderland in 1969 where she worked at Lowes grocery store and then at Brock High School cafeteria until her retirement.
She enjoyed baseball, curling and the Blue Jays - and was excited to have been at the final game of the 1993 World Series.
